About Lance Horbach
I was born on February 14, 1958, in Grundy Center, and moved to Toledo at the age of eight. I graduated from South Tama High School and attended Iowa State University, where I studied architecture. I married Jody Black in 1986, becoming father to Amy, Kendra and Melissa. We made our home in Toledo, and later added Nick to our family. My family and I lived in Toledo until 1996, before moving to Tama, where we currently reside. I am the proud grandfather of grandson, Talon, and granddaughters Lilli and Korrinn.
I was a co-owner of Horbach Furniture until I was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in November of 1997. In one of the closest elections in Iowa history, I was victorious by a mere two votes. Three recounts and three weeks later, I was declared the winner by nine votes.
In the Iowa House of Representatives, I serve on the Justice Systems Appropriations Subcommittee, a group which allocates just under $500,000,000 annually. The subcommittee is responsible for allocating money for all of the courts in the State of Iowa, including the Supreme Court and Attorney’s General Office. The subcommittee budgets for all of Iowa’s prisons, the State Law Enforcement Agencies, the Iowa National Guard, Iowa Air National Guard, the Civil Rights Commission and Iowa Telecommunications Network (ICN). I also serve as a member of the Judiciary and Economic Growth Committees, and am the Ranking Member on the Labor and Industrial Relations Committee.
I am currently employed by Independent Insurance, specializing in large account development. Jody is employed by Iowa Telecom in Business Sales Solutions.
